Well, looks like your doctor is more interested in money than your back pain. Back pain is a common complaint affecting more than 40% of the population at some point in their live. For the majority of people back pain disappears, but for some unlucky individuals back pain is a long lasting, agonizing painful disorder.
There is no universal treatment for back pain that works in everyone. There are hundreds of treatments for back pain and the latest is botox. It said that botox injections can temporary numb the pain. Mind you botox has never been approved by any federal agency for treatment of back pain; doctors only recommend it because it is an easy way to make money. So does it work?
So far only one study has shown that botox injections can help reduce back pain for 3-8 weeks. However it should be noted that less than 10% of patients with chronic back pain benefited from these injections. Finally you better know that terrible complications have also resulted from botox injections into the back including severe nerve injury and infections.
So for now, it is “buyer beware” situation. Botox is not an approved treatment for back pain and it is expensive. Every Tom, Dick and Harry is doing it- that means it is a money making scheme. If you have back pain and wrinkles, try botox for the latter- you will have a good response.
